MAILBOX!

A  Real "Rocket-Powered" Mailbox!

This is the study of a man and his mailbox.  "So what, everybody has a mailbox, right?" you ask.  But not a box like this one!  Chris Witt, a friend from Michigan, sent me the story and these pictures -- enjoy!

Ran across [not into] an interesting use for the Olds V8 the other day.

Mockup engine on a stand, no heads. Nicely painted. Silver block, red oil pan. Flowers in the cylinder bores. MAILBOX where the carb would be.

You can see it at:

Owner (Gene Whitmore) came out, posed for pic, relayed "the story behind the box."

Used to be his wife's car engine. Std issue 68-76 #2 block. He decided that a prop like that would gather attention, made it, stuck it out front. City pitched a b*tch, "you must not have such a thing outdoors, it's... unsightly" [if only they would crack down on graffiti laden vacant buildings so vigorously- a story for another day].

So, the man is hauling it back in when... the mailman swings by; discussion ensues in which the mailman suggests that if this "planter" were actually a "mailbox" then it's Federal Property and to hell with the city.

And that is how it came to have the mailbox affixed to it. Several years later, it still serves well in its capacity as mailbox, ornamental attention getter, and [the best part] a Stick in the Eye of the dolt city nitpickers who had to cause trouble over it.

You gotta love it!
